Three-Part Card Puzzle 三段卡拼圖遊戲

If you have used our character-learning readers or are using other readers to teach young children Chinese characters, you might have notice that one drawback is that the pictures are illustrated. When children learn Chinese outside Chinese-speaking regions, it is highly likely that they will come across things or ideas with which they are not familiar. (For example, bao, Chinese bun, is different from bread.) This is one of the reasons why I have created some Montessori three-part cards with photographs to help my daughter learn/review Chinese words. 如果你看過我們的認字故事小書,或者你正在使用其他書去教小孩認字,你可能會發現其中一個缺點是圖畫都是畫出來的,這樣,對在非華語成長的小孩來說比較富挑戰性,因為學華語必然會涉及相關文化(例如,包子跟麵包就很不一樣),所以,我就製作了有實物圖片的蒙特梭利三段卡,以幫助女兒學習/複習中文字。

Montessori Three-Part Cards 蒙特梭利三段卡

Montessori three-part cards contain three parts: 蒙特梭利三段卡分三部分:

  • Control card (a.k.a. whole card) 圖字卡

  • Image card 圖卡

  • Label card 字卡

A large part of Montessori method is about encouraging independence. The three-part cards are designed for children to be able to do the activity by themselves. The control cards allow children to self-correct and concentrate on the activity without adult intervention or interruption. 蒙特梭利教育著重培養孩子獨立,三段卡的設計讓小孩可以自行完成活動。圖字卡使小孩可以自行判斷對錯及改正,這樣可以減少成人的參與,使他們可以一直專心。

How to Use 如何使用

I) For Cognitive Development 認知學習

Parents or caregivers may use the three-part cards to teach babies and toddlers vocabulary with real objects. Read the word on the card aloud while showing the control card. (You may show the image card, but the control card helps the adults to use the same word every time they show the same card.) Then, the adult puts the real object onto the card. Finally, have the child put the real object on the card. The activity helps them understand abstraction (i.e., associate real objects with the image on the card). 家長或其他照顧者可以使用三段卡和實物來教嬰兒或幼兒詞語。讓小孩看圖字卡時,讀出卡上的字。(你也可以使用圖卡來讀,但圖字卡可以幫助大家每次都使用相同的詞語。)然後,大人把實物放到卡上。最後讓小孩把實物放到卡上。這個活動幫助幼兒開始認識抽象,把實物和相對抽象的圖象聯想在一起。

II) For New Vocabulary 學習新詞語

The adult introduces a new word with a control card and read the word on the card aloud. The adult and child may discuss how the photograph is related to the vocabulary word, especially when the word is more abstract and not about a concrete object or person. They may also talk about interesting features in the photograph to make learning fun and engaging. Finally, the adult reads the word again and invite the child to find the image card and say it aloud when they find the picture. Do not force them when they do not feel ready to say the word aloud. Play a few more times. They will read aloud when they feel more confident and ready. 成人用圖字卡介紹新詞語,讀出卡上的字。成人和小孩可以討論詞語和圖片的關係(當詞語比較抽象,而不是實質物件或人物,這討論更為重要)。大家也可以談談照片中有趣的地方,以增加學習的趣味和投入感。最後,成人再讀詞語一次,讓小孩找出圖卡,找到圖卡後邀請小孩讀出詞語。小孩未想讀出詞語的時候,不用催迫,多玩幾次,他們自信一點、覺得自己準備好就會讀出來了。

III) For Word Recognition 認字練習

A child is only ready to learn to read when they already know the word orally (see "For New Vocabulary" above for teaching ideas). To help children focus on the characters, the adult points to the characters when they read them on the control card. Ask the child to find the image card and label card. 待小孩知道詞語的讀法(見上文「學習新詞語」部分),他們才會有信心學習認字。成人教認字時,可以指著圖字卡的字讓小孩專注在字詞上。然後,小孩就可以找圖卡和字卡了。

The first time we played, my daughter played for about 10 different cards. She repeated some of her favorite cards several times. The second time we played, I made her a three-part card tray, and she played for an hour! The tray helps her stay focused. Plus, it is fun putting cards into a space (think of slots!), I guess. 我們第一次玩三段卡的時候,女兒大概玩了十張不同的卡。她還特別重覆玩她喜愛的卡!我們第二次玩的時候,我自製了一個三段卡盤,女兒玩了一小時!三段卡盤幫助女兒集中,而且我猜,小孩真的很喜歡把卡放入一些空間(例如插卡的縫)。

Print & Store 列印與存放

I usually print my teaching materials on this 110lb cardstock for durability, but you can also laminate the cards. We do not have a color printer at home, so I have our cards printed outside as 4"x6" photos. Then, I cut them and rounded the corners with a corner cutter. Surprisingly, the cards also fit into my five-grid tray (see the next next image). 平時我會把教材印在厚卡紙上,但我們家中沒有彩色打印機,所以我把檔案送到外面作4R相片打印。然後,我自己剪,裁圓角。令我驚喜的是,我的卡剛剛好可以放進家中的五格長盤(見下下圖)。

DIY Card Pocket 自製卡套

At first, I also tried making one like Sophie's (Chroniques d'une globe-téteuse) card pocket, but my daughter likes the 5-grid white card tray more (see image below). 最初,我按Chroniques d'une globe-téteuse網站Sophie製作卡套,但是女兒比較喜歡我們家的那個白色五格長盤(見下圖)。
